Monza Speed Trap: who is the fastest of them all?

Calling Monza a super high-speed track is stating the obvious, so it's also no surprise that F1 cars reach their highest velocity of the year at the Temple of Speed.

Speaking of surprises however, a glance at the readings provides a massive shock.

Low and behold, after painfully making up the rear all season - generally as slow as a snail traveling through peanut butter - a McLaren whizzed through the speed trap in qualifying at a whopping 346.4 km/h!

The feat was achieved by Fernando Alonso and likely involved some crafty slip-streaming by the Spaniard as well as a hugely trimmed MCL33. It didn't help Alonso make the Q1 cut however.

Mercedes-powered drivers were next in line while Sauber's Charles Leclerc and Marcus Ericsson - who were eliminated in Q3 - were slowest in the session despite their Ferrari power, some 15 km/h adrift.
