As the rain worsened in the second half of FP2 at Montreal, the two Mercedes W06 Hybrids of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg decided to brave the elements and take to the track only shod with intermediate tyres. Having found shelter under their umbrellas, fans started to cheer the championship leaders on and showed their appreciation for Mercedes’ efforts to offer some on-track action in spite of weather conditions. Barely one minute later, Hamilton crashed at the Casino Hairpin after aquaplaning off. The defending champion then went on declaring this had not been his call to go out. After the Monaco mix up, the Mercedes pit wall took another decision that left people in the F1 paddock scratch their heads.
