A red letter day for Ferrari in 2002

This day in 2002 saw Ferrari clinch a dominant 1-2 victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix - and with it, their fourth consecutive constructors' championship.

Michael Schumacher had already wrapped up the drivers title after winning nine of the previous 12 races. His team mate Rubens Barrichello additionally notched up a further win for Ferrari in the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.

Having qualified for the race on pole, it was Barrichello who claimed the honours in Hungary as well. He pipped his team mate to the finish line by half a second.

"The most important thing about this result is that we have won the constructors' championship," he said afterwards. "Today was a fantastic feeling with a great car, great pit stops and great everything!

"Michael was very close and there is always pressure with a champion behind you," he admitted. "When Michael put in his quick lap, I was very surprised to see him there behind me again. I guess he was having some fun because we had eased off by that point and were just bringing the cars home safely."

The pair were joined on the grid by Ferrari team principal Jean Todt, and also by Michael's brother Ralf who came third for Williams.

"A dream race with a dream result," said Todt. "Never before has Ferrari won four consecutive Constructors' titles and this is the result of all the hard work from everyone in the Scuderia.

"Eleven wins, including five one-two finishes, out of thirteen races contested is a record for Ferrari," he added. "We have achieved our main aim of winning the constructors' championship and now we will do our best to allow Rubens to maintain second place in the Drivers' classification."

This was the last race to be held at the Hungaroring before modifications were introduced in time for the 2003 race. It was also the first race for Anthony Davidson, who replaced Alex Yoong at Minardi after the Malaysian driver had proved a disappointment in qualifying.

Sadly the Arrows team were a no-show in Budapest. Ongoing financial problems meant that the team was going into liquidation despite the best efforts that season of drivers Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Enrique Bernoldi.
