Die-hard McLaren fans will have the perfect gift on offer for themselves for Christmas, with Chinese company OnePlus marketing a special edition co-branded smartphone emblazoned with the McLaren name.

From its case's carbon fiber pattern weave to its McLaren papaya highlights, or the orange pulsating screen and cool software tweaks, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is a must-have for the McLaren devotee.

But wait, there's more!

Indeed, the phone pays tribute to McLaren's extraordinary heritage not only on the outside, but also inside, with a 'Salute to Speed' Augmented Reality special app that delivers images and sound relating to the legendary Bruce McLaren and his eponymous team.

The phone's classy presentation box also includes a McLaren-shaped genuine piece of carbon produced from the same sheet that went into the production of the Woking-based outfit's 2018 MCL33.

The OnePlus 6T is the product of a true technical and design collaboration between McLaren and OnePlus. The phone will launch in Europe and in the US on December 13 and will retail at £649 or $699.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
