They enjoyed just one full season of racing together at Renault but Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz formed one of the most homogenous and solid driver pairings on the grid.
Together they were both quick and reliable, each one spurring the other on within a climate of commitment and mutual respect, a fact not lost on Hulkenberg who sent Sainz a proper send-off note on Twitter.
"The year is almost over and I'm already looking forward to some exciting changes in 2019.. but for now it's time to thank Carlos for the great teamwork! Good luck at @mclaren my Cabrón . I'll keep an eye on you".
