On this day in 2012, Fernando Alonso captured his 29th career win in Formula 1, the Spaniard winning the European Grand Prix on home turf in Valencia.

The Ferrari driver led home a distinguished duo of fellow world champions, with Kimi Raikkonen finishing second for Lotus and Michael Schumacher coming home third for Mercedes.

Valencia marked the German ace's 155th and final career podium in Formula 1.

He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
