Today is former Formula One driver Bertrand Gachot’s birthday. His journey in the top flight spanned six years (1989-1995) and included spells at Onyx, Rial, Coloni, Jordan, Larrousse, and Pacific. The French-Belgian racer’s career highlight came outside of F1 though, with Gachot taking outright victory at the 1991 Le Mans 24 Hours with Johnny Herbert and Volker Weidler in the Mazda 787B. As of 2015, this remains the only Le Mans win secured by a Japanese manufacturer.
