Alfa Romeo revisits C41 livery on 111th birthday

The Alfa Romeo team will race in Austria this weekend with a slightly altered livery on its C39 car that will pay tribute to the legendary manufacturer's 111 years of history.

Founded in Milan on June 24, 2010 by anonymous investors, Alfa Romeo's legendary quadrifoglio has blazed the path for prestigious sport-oriented vehicles.

But the manufacture's motorsport history, built on the pursuit of excellence, is intimately associated with the marque's history and continues to grow in the modern.

Alfa Romeo was a dominant force in Grand Prix racing at the inception of the Formula 1 World Championship in 1950 and returned to the sport in 2018 when it partnered with Sauber.

The celebrate its 111 years of existence, a special logo designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo will replace the traditional Alfa Romeo crest on the engine cover of the C41 cars of Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Räikkönen at this weekend’s Styrian Grand Prix.

Alfa says the logos on the car are only an element of the whole programme of celebrations for Alfa Romeo’s 111th anniversary, with a full range of activities and initiatives taking place at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, near Milan, until Sunday.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
