Toro Rosso’s glorious ancestor

As the covers come off the Toro Rosso STR11’s 2016 livery on Tuesday morning, it’s worth remembering the Minardi M185 - its illustrious ancestor -, which was unveiled 31 years ago in (nearly) the same factory in Faenza, Italy.

The car might not have been a frontrunner but it marked the start of Giancarlo Minardi’s foray into F1. Initially fitted with an old Cosworth V8, the M185 will finish the season with a Motori Moderni 1.5-litre V6 turbocharged engine.
