Las Vegas set to take F1 into new dimension

They say that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but if reality next November is anything like the latest renderings released by F1, there will be no escaping the consequences of Sin City's racing extravaganza.

Hailed as an event that will exceed Super Bowl status and visibility in the US by F1 chief Stefano Domenicali, the Las Vegas Grand Prix will also set a new very high bar for race promoters around the world.

The hugely anticipated race - promoted by F1 itself which has heavily invested in the venue - will bring together Grand Prix racing's glamour and glitz and an equally flamboyant array of off-track entertainment experiences for fans.

And the sparkling all-encompassing combo will become the new template for those destination cities hosting, or that wish to host, a round of the F1 world championship.

Tickets sales for Vegas are highly priced, but demand is expected to absorb every single seat in the house.

All that is needed is an exciting showdown street fight under the strobe lights and spotlights of the gambling capital of the world.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
