Genesis unveils fiery GMR-001 Hypercar Le Mans contender

Genesis, Hyundai’s slick luxury vehicle arm, just dropped an impressive first look at its 2026 Hypercar beast – the Genesis Magma Racing GMR-001.

The fiery orange-and-red monster is set to tear up the tracks in the 2026 WEC, IMSA championships, and at Le Mans of course.

Teaming up with French chassis wizards Oreca and guided by Genesis’ design guru Luc Donckerwolke, the GMR-001 is a masterclass in style and speed.

Donckerwolke’s crew leaned hard into the LMDh rules, infusing the car with Genesis’ bold design DNA. Think sleek, flowing lines that cut like a blade, paired with a body kit that’s all about aerodynamic domination without sacrificing an ounce of flair.

When Genesis storms Le Mans in 2026, it’ll be rubbing shoulders with eight other heavyweights: Ferrari, Toyota, Porsche, Peugeot, Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, and Aston Martin. And with McLaren and Ford joining the fray in 2027!

Get ready for an endurance racing showdown like no other!

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
