Smooth operators in Cannes: F1’s finest grace the French Riviera

Who says the most intense action happens on the track?

While the 2026 season is in full swing, former Ferrari duo Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc took a high-speed detour to the French Riviera to prove they’re just as dangerous in black tie as they are in fireproof overalls.

Gracing the Cannes Film Festival this week, the pair looked ready for their close-ups.

Sainz brought his  "Smooth Operator" energy to the balcony, likely making sure his hair remained a podium-worthy 10/10 – hardly a surprise for a man who officially models for L’Oreal.

Not to be outdone, Charles Leclerc and his better half, Alexandra, redefined "power couple" goals. With several luxury fashion endorsements already under his belt, Charles clearly treats the red carpet like a qualifying lap: precision, style, and zero room for error.

Between Carlos’s smolder and Charles’s effortless chic, the paparazzi didn’t stand a chance. Formula 1 might be a sport of millimeters, but in the glamour stakes at Cannes, these two are miles ahead of the competition. Stay spicy, gents!

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
