Goodwood Revival honors the immense legacy of Sir Jack Brabham

As usual, the atmosphere at this weekend’s Goodwood Revival event is rich with nostalgia. But a heartfelt moment erupted when a 40-strong moving track parade paid tribute to the extraordinary legacy of Sir Jack Brabham.

Marked by the centenary of his birth and 71 years since he took a brave leap of faith leaving Australia, the event showcased the legendary machines that forged the three-time F1 World Champion's unmatched motorsport heritage.

Among the iconic grid were the Cooper Climax T51 and T53 that secured his first two Formula 1 World Championships, alongside the magnificent 1970 Brabham BT33 in which he claimed his final Grand Prix victory.

Sir Jack remains the only driver in history to win an F1 World Championship in a car bearing his own name – a testament to his rare genius as both a driver and a constructor.

Reflecting on Brabham's pioneering spirit, former driver John Watson described him as a "remarkable man" who turned a risky venture into historic triumph. "Jack made a career and a great business as well," Watson noted, capturing the enduring admiration for a true motorsport titan.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
