Damon Hill won the world championship on this day in 1996, becoming the first son of an F1 world champion to also win the title. Hill triumphed with victory at Suzuka in his final race for Williams, having lost out to Benetton's Michael Schumacher in 1994 and 1995. The result saw Hill follow in his father Graham's footsteps, and led to the iconic line from commentator Murray Walker as Hill crossed the line: "And I've got to stop, because I've got a lump in my throat."
