Lewis Hamilton sealed his second world title on this date two years after winning the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Having entered the season finale 17 points ahead of Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, the Briton saw the German claim a dominant pole position on Saturday.

Hamilton immediately turned the tables in the race when he beat his rival off the line to lead into the first corner. His championship victory was even secured before the chequered flag, as Rosberg slipped out of the points-paying positions due to an ERS failure.
