McLAREN'S “SIZE ZERO” PHILOSOPHY EXTENDS TO THE STEERING WHEEL

The lower part of the MP4-30’s steering wheel has been planed in order to offer more leg room to Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button (compare yellow arrows). Designed in-house by McLaren Applied Technologies, it is fitted with bigger controls and thumb wheels that are easier to handle.

In the middle sits the rotary dial that the driver uses to modify some settings depending on the type of tyres the car is shod with – slicks, inters, or full wets. It’s worth noting that the yellow “OT” (for “overtake”) and DRS activation buttons are located on the back of the steering wheel.
