Places Alonso would rather be

Fernando Alonso showed a sense of humour when failing to set a time in qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix, relaxing in the sunshine on a deck chair while sat trackside.

Alonso had already been forced to stop on track during FP2 when he was again told by McLaren to pull over early in the first part of qualifying on Saturday, leading him to wait trackside until Q1 was completed.

As a result of the image, social media has responded in kind to create a number of entertaining mock images which drop Alonso in to different locations accompanied with the hashtag #PlacesAlonsoWouldRatherBe.

With creations ranging from movie scenes to opposing team garages and even Disney movies, F1i has put together a selection of some of the best submissions from social media users. We wonder what Ron Dennis would think of it all...

Andrew first became a fan of Formula 1 during the time when Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill were stepping into the limelight after the era of Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell and Aryton Senna. He's been addicted ever since, and has been writing about the sport now for nearly a quarter of a century for a number of online news sites. He's also written professionally about GP2 (now Formula 2), GP3, IndyCar, World Rally Championship, MotoGP and NASCAR. In his other professional life, Andrew is a freelance writer, social media consultant, web developer/programmer, and digital specialist in the fields of accessibility, usability, IA, online communities and public sector procurement. He worked for many years in magazine production at Bauer Media, and for over a decade he was part of the digital media team at the UK government's communications department.
