F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2019 Russian Grand Prix

Robert Kubica (Retired, Lap 29): 5.5/10
Generally speaking it was business as usual for Robert Kubica this week. As the only driver in attendance never to have raced at Sochi before in any championship, it wasn't surprising to see him struggling to get to grips with the difficult circuit and go for the odd spin along the way. He managed not to damage the Williams in the process, but that one second deficit to his rookie team mate in FP2, FP3 and qualifying couldn't help but be painful to the proud Pole, although the prospect of a grid drop for new engine parts was hardly very motivating. Assorted grid penalties for other cars saw him start Sunday's race from 17th but his slow pace soon dropped him to the back of the field, and he was lapped by the race leaders after just 20 laps. George Russell's retirement on lap 28 briefly elevated him to 16th place but then the call from the team pit wall ordered him to park the car, officially to 'take care of the parts that we have on the car' although the timing suggested that Williams might also be concerned about the reasons behind Russell's exit and didn't want to risk Kubica crashing out for so little potential reward.
