F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2019 Japanese GP

Romain Grosjean (P15): 7/10
Like his team mate, Romain Grosjean's poor weekend in Suzuka was more a reflection of the state of the car than it was of his own driving. He did reasonably well in Friday's two practice sessions (11th and 13th respectively) and then excelled in qualifying where he was able to make it all the way through to the final round of qualifying to secure tenth place on the grid, having been one of the few drivers to get a feel for the gusty conditions. Unfortunately That proved to be the high point of his weekend: while his team mate made up a handful of positions at the start, Grosjean went in the opposite direction and dropped to 14th on the first lap alone. The decision to go for the hard tyre on lap 16 in an effort to complete the race on a one-stop strategy initially helped during the middle stages of the race, but subsequently left him open to attack from rivals who switched to soft tyres for the closing stages.
