F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2020 Belgian GP

Sergio Perez (P10, 1 pt): 8/10
Racing Point had high hopes of continuing their recent strong run of form this weekend, and it seemed to be going to plan when Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll were fourth and fifth quickest at the end of first practice on Friday. Perez stayed in the top five in the afternoon, but then things started going off the boil on Saturday and when it came to qualifying their hope of making it through to the final round on sets of mediums didn't pay off. They were forced to switch to softs instead, which completely changed their approach to Sunday's race. Perez lost out at the start, but the big moment for him came when the team opted not to pit him under the early safety car. Five laps later and those soft tyres were on death's door, meaning he was haemorrhaging positions before finally pitting under green which dropped him to the back of the field. He did well to recover into the points from there, but he ran out of momentum just after managing to breach the top ten. Would an earlier pit stop have made the crucial difference?

Lance Stroll (P9, 2 pts): 7.5/10
Like his team mate, Lance Stroll arrived at Spa expecting Racing Point to be strong contenders this weekend only to be left feeling a little frustrated when that pace ultimately failed to materialise. Fifth fastest in first practice on Friday, Stroll lost ground in the afternoon but was faster that Sergio Perez in FP3. However lack of raw speed meant the team's bid to get them through to the final round of qualifying on medium tyres didn't work out, forcing both drivers to start the race on soft compound tyres. Stroll made his stop under the safety car rather than staying out like his team mate, and had a relatively straightforward time of it from there as he topped out in seventh place only to end up losing positions to Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly in the closing laps, leaving him just ahead of Perez at the line. Points, yes, but not as good as Racing Point hoped and expected to get this weekend in their continuing championship battle with McLaren.
