F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2020 Italian GP

Antonio Giovinazzi (P16): 6/10
It didn't prove to be a good weekend for Italians in general, and the gloom was shared by Antonio Giovinazzi in Ferrari's sister Alfa Romeo team. He actually featured quite strongly on Friday and finished the day 13th quickest ahead of Alex Albon (although some deleted lap times played a part in that.) But the form deserted him on on Saturday and he was slowest of all in final practice and only quicker than the two Williams in qualifying. He got a good start in the race and gained four places on the first lap alone, and then pitted as soon as the safety car was scrambled for Kevin Magnussen's retirement. It meant he benefited from everyone else coming in under the subsequent safety car which left him running in the top five for a spell. But once the race resumed any dreams he might have had about a surprise success quickly crumbled to dust when he was given a heavy penalty for making his stop while pit lane was closed. It left him right at the back, and unlike Lewis Hamilton he was unable to catch up again before the chequered flag.

Alexander Albon (P15): 6/10
Red Bull's curiously lacklustre Italian Grand Prix extended to Alex Albon. He started off with a bang by going third fastest in FP1, although deleted lap times left him down the the order in the afternoon session. He was closer to his team mate's times this weekend than has been the case at other venues, but he still qualified four places in arrears on Saturday after surviving a scare at the end of Q2 when he nearly missed the cut entirely. He suffered a disastrous start to the race when he clashed first with eventual race winner Pierre Gasly on lap 1, and then with Romain Grosjean on lap 2. While the stewards took no action on the first incident, they gave Albon a penalty for the second which dropped him firmly out of contention for the rest of the afternoon, the Red Bull seemingly unable to find the speed needed to recover while stuck in traffic. He spent the rest of the afternoon trailing in the tyre marks of his friend George Russell.
