F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2020 Eifel GP

Lando Norris (Retired, Lap 43): 8/10
Lando Norris was looking strong on Saturday and enjoying the challenge of his first time at the Nurburgring, sixth fastest in FP3 and much faster than Carlos Sainz. It was an advantage he carried into qualifying, but while he still finished ahead of his team mate he was disappointed to only manage eighth place on the grid when he felt the McLaren had deserved better. He picked up a place on the first lap with a pass on Esteban Ocon, and then dug in and waited while cars ahead started to pit. He made his soft tyres last an impressive 29 laps by which time he was up to third place and a genuine contender for a podium place following Valtteri Bottas' retirement. But unfortunately by this point the MCL35 was exhibiting a worrying loss of power. No manner of software fixes from the pit wall could do anything about the slow death of the car, which finally came to a stop on lap 43 to trigger the only full safety car of the afternoon.

Daniil Kvyat (P15): 6.5/10
Daniil Kvyat's only major impact on the Eifel Grand Prix was the one he sustained with Alex Albon which ripped the front wing of the AlphaTauri off. It forced him to pit for repairs, which left him circulating at the back for the rest of the afternoon. While it hadn't been an outstanding weekend up to then, there had still been the prospect of points after he was one of the few drivers to start the race on medium tyres. Having qualified in 12th place, he unfortunately lost two places at the start to Antonio Giovinazzi and Kevin Magnussen, which left him stuck behind his AlphaTauri team mate Pierre Gasly up to the brief virtual safety car period on lap 16. The restart saw him briefly run wide onto the grass and then came the clash with Albon which sent him to the back. The team's desperate gamble of switching him to the hard compound didn't help him make any progress and a swap to softs under the final safety car (during which he was also restored to the lead lap) came too late to change his fortunes.
