F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2020 Eifel GP

Nicholas Latifi (P14): 6/10
It was a decent weekend for Nicholas Latifi, albeit not accompanied by any conspicuous honours or achievements. He was slowest of anyone in the sole practice session (not counting the poorly Lance Stroll who was unable to take part) but gave a spirited showing in qualifying that almost (but not quite) saw him beat his Williams team mate George Russell. Neither man made it through to Q2 this week and Latifi started from 18th place, pitting early on lap 14 to exchange his soft tyres for a set of mediums. By this time Russell had already been forced out of the race, leaving Latifi as the team's sole standard bearer for the rest of the afternoon. He kept plugging away and peaked in 12th place when the late safety car restored him to the lead lap, but the FW43 didn't have the pace to allow him to defend the position from rapid strikes by Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen on lap 53. After that he did well to fend off Daniil Kvyat for the rest of the race to secure 14th.

Kevin Magnussen (P13): 7/10
Having finished practice in 16th place, Kevin Magnussen would probably have been expecting to miss the cut again as usual at the end of Q1. Instead he actually put in an impressive effort to easily make it through to the second round. He settled for 15th on the grid, and when the lights went out he immediately picked two spots with passes on AlphaTauri pair Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly despite sustaining some front wing damage in the opening moments. He was on the verge of breaking into the top ten by the time he pitted for the first time on lap 14. He battled his way back up the order again, but the team's decision to run a two-stopper on lap 34 dropped him down to 14th, and while he was initially able to recover the lost ground he was ambushed by Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen six laps from the finish to leave him in a somewhat disappointing 13th - especially given that his team mate Romain Grosjean managed to claim points for Haas despite a hand injury.
