A closer look at the Haas VF-16

… BUT EACH WITH THEIR OWN PERSONALITY

Unsurprisingly, the Haas sidepods are bigger than their Ferrari counterparts. Having less experience in terms of hybrid V6 turbo cooling requirements, chief designer Rob Taylor and his team did not want to take any risks. Further evidence of this careful approach can be found on the dimensions of the engine cover, which is quite massive on the American team’s firt-ever F1 challenger. The overall design of the car is bound to be trimmed down as the season unfolds, but right now the top priority remains to put as much mileage on the car as possible to see how it behaves, while also creating a strong team spirit.

The Haas airbox is also quite unique. It splits into a pair of ducts: one feeds cooling air to the compressor, while the other is either an ERS or a gearbox cooler. Two winglets sit astride the airbox, as it is the case on the SF16-H but also the Williams FW38.
