REVISING THE FRONT SUSPENSION DESIGN

If the camera mounts draw some inspiration from their Mercedes counterparts (as a reminder, these will be outlawed in 2017), the Toro Rosso brake ducts exhale a flavour of McLaren circa 2015. Like on most other cars, the STR11 hubs are hollow in order to let the air pass, which in turn keeps away the dirty wake coming off the rotating wheels.

In order to better channel the airflow towards the splitter, Toro Rosso engineers have pushed the front upper wishbone backwards, which now sits well behind the lower wishbone. In a way, this looks like an intermediate solution compared to the MP4-31, where both suspensions arms have been pushed further back but also brought closer together at the same time.
