A remarkable result for Haas on debut and one which came about courtesy of a strategy call and excellent driving from Grosjean under pressure. The Frenchman held station at the start but then did well to make his soft tyres last, allowing him to gain track position as others pit around him. Haas didn’t panic when the safety car was deployed and held on until the red flag period gave it a free pit stop, with Grosjean taking on medium tyres to run to the end. The pressure of being sixth could have shown, but Grosjean kept a Force India and Williams at bay with ease.
