Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes (SP6, Accident Lap 2, 3 pts): 5/10
Mercedes arrived in Austin feeling upbeat about their final set of planned upgrades for 2024, but for Lewis Hamilton it all went badly off the rails. He looked like he was consciously uncoupling from Brackley ahead of his move to Ferrari in 2025, and they with him. He didn't seem in harmony with the team all weekend: his sprint race was merely average, but his Saturday qualifying flop and the Sunday accident after a flying start to the Grand Prix were frankly bizarre.

Zhou Guanyu, Sauber (SP19, P19): 4/10
Not long to go now before Zhou Guanyu reaches the end of his Formula 1 career with Sauber. There was nothing on show here to argue for a second chance for the Chinese driver, and he spent most of the weekend at or near the back. He seems to be resigned to the idea that he'll be leaving the championship after Abu Dhabi, if not even a little grateful at this point.
