Oscar Piastri, McLaren (P10): 7.5/10
Oscar wasn’t to blame for his Turn 1 brawl with Max Verstappen at Turn 1 that sent him tumbling from P2 to P19, but the incident, coupled with Charles Leclerc’s stunning and simultaneous push through the field certainly rattled the McLaren garage. Piastri regained his composure only to rearend Colapinto’s Williams during the post-virtual safety car restart. That clumsy maneuver could have had dire consequences for team papaya had it been in need of an extra ration of points supplied by the Aussie. In the end however, it all proved inconsequential.
Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin (P9): 8/10
Fernando Alonso secured another top-ten finish in Abu Dhabi after he and his team executed a solid race. However, a spot just inside the top ten was, on merit, as good as it was ever likely to get for the two-time world champion. Overall, it’s been a disappointing season for Team Silverstone, but Alonso has much to look forward to in 2025 thanks to the team’s high-profile hirings.
