THE CURIOUS GEARBOX CASING
The gearbox casing houses the titanium-made transmission, oil pump and rear suspension dampers. This carbon structure also serves as a fixation point for the rear wing central pillar, and as an attachment point for the rear suspension wishbone and rear crash structure. This year’s Mercedes gearbox casing is slimmer than the 2015-spec version, which is used by customer team Force India on its VJM09 this season.
