RED BULL GIVES YOU A REVISED FRONT WING

Toro Rosso introduced a comprehensive upgrade in Germany, which started with a modified its front wing in several areas. The footplate sitting between the endplate and the arches was made wider and divided into several sections (see white arrows). This solution is not new and has already been spotted up and down the paddock (for instance, McLaren and Force India unleashed a similar design in Barcelona earlier this year).

Although the aforementioned arches are more pronounced (compare the yellow outlines), they don’t yet create the sort of tunnel one can see on the Mercedes and Force India. The farthest end of the endplate is more curved in a bid to further divert the airflow from the front wheels (see red arrows in the top and bottom comparison pictures).

The curved vane attached to the main cascade has been replaced by a winglet that bears some similarities with the element introduced by Renault in Spain (see blue arrows). The leading edge of the upper flaps has been modified so these drop more abruptly (see green arrows), while an extra fin has been added underneath the main plane of the front wing (compare orange arrows in the bottom images).
