2016 Japanese Grand Prix - Driver ratings

Motor Racing - Formula One World Championship - Japanese Grand Prix - Race Day - Suzuka, Japan

Daniel Ricciardo - 6th place, 8 points - 7/10

A hard race to judge from Ricciardo, who was undertaking an exercise in damage limitation due to a suspected power unit problem. The Australian felt Raikkonen’s grid penalty proved costly as it moved him to the damp side of the grid, and he lost a place to Perez after going on the damp part of the track avoiding the slow-starting Hamilton. His lack of straight line speed - which Ricciardo highlighted after qualifying - was evident when Vettel made light work of him, and Hamilton did the same after the first round of pit stops. It meant he had no real weapons with which to defend his position, but still brought the car home in the top six with a good final stint.
