2016 Japanese Grand Prix - Driver ratings

Motor Racing - Formula One World Championship - Japanese Grand Prix - Qualifying Day - Suzuka, Japan

Felipe Massa - 9th place, 2 points - 7.5/10

The Force India pair might have got the better of Williams on track but in a race where there were no retirements, ninth and tenth represented the best the car could give Massa and Bottas. The raw pace was highlighted by both dropping out in Q2, but opened up freedom on tyre choice. On a one stop strategy, much of the opening stint was spent defending, but the Brazilian got involved in some close scraps, most notably against Carlos Sainz who closed the door at Turn 1 on lap 27. Massa wasn’t deterred, pulling off the move a lap later in another close call.
