CRACKING UNDER KERB PRESSURE

Jolyon Palmer could not take part in the Mexican GP qualifying session after Renault had to change its chassis. The team found a crack near the seat belt mounting points in the Briton’s R.S.16 carbon monocoque after he rode a kerb high in free practice.

Since 1972, technical regulations have mandated a six-point harness. The six straps, which are made of two shoulder straps, two pelvic straps and two crotch straps, are attached to the chassis on one end and meet in the buckle on the other end.
