Three reasons why Honda is struggling

3) A lack of experience in the new F1 technologies

Honda are experts in turbocharging and hybrid technology for road-going vehicles, but lean-burn internal combustion, electricity management, heat energy recovery, etc. represent new territory for the Japanese manufacturer. Honda is learning the hard way about its lack of experience in certain fields, which was not totally anticipated.

This means that 2015 will be to Honda what 2014 was for its engine rivals: gaining experience through hardship. This may sound cliché, but nothing replaces competition. Last year, Mercedes racked up 42,142km, Renault compiled 36,722km and Ferrari did 27,402km, thus collecting more valuable data than any results they could have had on the dyno.
