Nico Rosberg says he was "pushing like mad" to try and force Lewis Hamilton in to a mistake during the Canadian Grand Prix.

Hamilton led from pole position but had Rosberg within two seconds for the majority of the second half of the race as both drivers managed fuel and brakes. While never closer enough to attack his team-mate, Rosberg says he was pushing to the limit to try and break Hamilton's rhythm.

“It was a great race against Lewis, I was pushing like mad to try and put the pressure on but he didn't make any mistakes so fair play," Rosberg said. "It was a very challenging race, we had to manage fuel, brakes, all these things, but it was the same for Lewis and the same for both of us. It was a good race, unfortunately I couldn’t quite make it happen but second place is still OK.”

And Rosberg believes he lost his best chance of victory in qualifying on Saturday having had a "rubbish" session.

“It was just a tiny bit that I lost out in qualifying in the end because the race pace was there and it was just the qualifying position which makes a big difference. So that’s what I need to try and make happen next time.”
