Jim Clark Museum project secures final funding

The Jim Clark Museum project has wrapped up a £1.6m funding package which will lead to the opening of a space dedicated to the legendary driver in Duns, Scotland.

The Jim Clark Trust (JCT) has reached its required £300,000 target while the Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has secured nearly £635,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and will contribute a similar sum itself.

The museum, which will be developed from teh existing Jim Clark Room in Dunds, is aiming for a 2018 opening and will feature memorabilia and two of Clark's race cars.

Sir Jackie Stewart, JCT honorary president, said:

"I am thrilled that the dream has come true that sufficient funding is going to permit a great Scottish hero to be honoured by what will be an excellent testimony to his success as one of the world's greatest racing drivers of all time.

"I am so proud to have been a friend of Jim's. I learned so much from him and I miss him dearly."

Sir Jackie added that the initiative would "recognise one of Scotland's greatest sporting heroes in the very grounds that he so much loved".

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
