Michael Andretti is keeping a watchful eye on Formula 1's latest commercial and regulation developments, as the owner of Andretti Autosport.
The 55-year-old former driver and son of F1 legend Mario Andretti is at the helm of his own motorsport structure which races not only in Indycar but also in Formula E, rallycross and V8 Supercar.
Andretti Autosport joined forces with McLaren last may to run Fernando Alonso in the Indy 500.
With the sport undergoing big transformations, and the prospect of a budget cap destined to lower costs coming into effect sometime in the future, Andretti isn't discarding a return of the family name to F1, as a team owner.
"Obviously it comes down to having a backer, as I can't afford to do it myself," Andretti told DW Motorsport.
Andretti, who had an unsuccessful run in F1 with McLaren in 1993, says he come close to putting a team together in the past.
"There's been a few deals that started to go somewhere and then they didn't," he said.
"We're always keeping our eyes open."
