Pirelli just released a comprehensive analysis of the 2017 season which reveals a series of interesting facts and numbers.
The report dives deep into all sorts of statistics, but one compelling fact is the decrease in the total number of overtaking moves which took place this year.
Drivers executed 435 passes in 2017, a huge 49 percent drop from the massive 866 passes which occurred in 2016.
As anticipated before the start of the season, Formula 1's new spec fasters cars posed a major challenge to drivers in terms of overtaking, a difficulty mainly linked to this year's increase in downforce.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, which was disrupted by a Safety Car and then interrupted, was the event which delivered the most passes, with drivers swapping positions 42 times.
The Russian Grand Prix at Sochi however only a single overtaking move.
Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo was F1's best overtaker, passing his rivals 43 times over the course of the season.
Williams rookie Lance Stroll was somewhat of an opening lap wonder, with the Canadian executing 36 passes on the first lap of the race this season.
Pirelli has crunched the many numbers and put together a wealth of information to pour over regarding the 2017 season.
