Flush with cash? Bid for Senna's Monaco-winning McLaren!

Very well-heeled Senna fans will have an opportunity to bid for a rare piece of racing memorabilia when the great Brazilian's historic McLaren MP4/8A goes under the hammer in May.

McLaren F1 cars don't often come up for auction, let alone a winning specimen raced to glory by the legendary three-time world champion.

But the true value of this Cosworth powered MP4/8A stems from the fact that it is the car which brought Senna his record-setting sixth and final Monaco Grand Prix victory.

The auction will be handled by Bonhams and fittingly take place in Monaco, on May 11 2018.

"Ayrton Senna was the most charismatic Grand Prix car driver of the modern era, and the MP4/8A was the car with which his team, McLaren, surpassed Ferrari as the most successful team in Formula 1 World Championship history," says Mark Osborne, Bonhams Global Head of Motorsport.

"This particular chassis, number 6, cemented Senna's legend as The Master of Monaco. We at Bonhams are both honoured and thrilled to be presenting one of the most significant Grand Prix cars of all time. It is his Monaco winner, it is a runner, and now it could be yours."

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
