British GP puts historic F1 on its support program!

Formula 1 will take a bow to its heritage next summer by adding two historic F1 support races to its British GP program at Silverstone.

Participants from the FIA's classic F1 European series and its North American equivalent will come together in a howling whale of Cosworth DFVs and a few V12's to offer fans an exciting trip down memory lane.

Masters Historic Racing, which staged historic F1 races in Canada, the United and States and Mexico last year, will run the races next July.

"The fact that we have been asked to organise a support race at the British Grand Prix certainly reflects the quality of the show we put on at Montreal, Austin and Mexico City last year," says MHR founder Ron Maydon.

"I'm sure that we will evoke many wonderful memories with spectators who were also present at Silverstone and Brands in the 1970s and 1980s as well as fascinate the younger part of the crowd."

The British Grand Prix weekend will take place at Silverstone on July 6-7-8.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
