Giovinazzi in contention for works Ferrari drive at Le Mans

Sauber reserve driver and Ferrari junior Antonio Giovinazzi has been short listed by the Italian manufacturer as one of its potential drivers for this year's Le Mans 24 hours event.

Ferrari has entered a three-car 488 squad in the GTE Pro category under the banner of the AF Corse team, where three seats have yet to be attributed alongside confirmed drivers Toni Vilander, James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi.

Giovinazzi has been lined up for a test with the team which should take place at Monza in early May.

"Antonio is a candidate and we are probably going to give him a test, but we are also going to evaluate some other drivers," a spokesman for Ferrari told Motorsport.com.

Giovinazzi made his F1 debut with Sauber last year at the Australian Grand Prix, where he substituted for the injured Pascal Wehrlein.

The 24-year-old also ran in China, and handled Friday FP1duties for Haas at several venues last season, but was ultimately denied a full-time drive with Sauber this year by fellow Ferrari junior Charles Leclerc.
