Winning in F1 no longer an option for Alonso - Rosberg

Nico Rosberg doesn't believe there is much hope of seeing Fernando Alonso return to the winner's circle in Formula 1.

The 2016 world champion cast a negative view on the Spaniard's prospects this year, claiming his interests in racing in other areas of motorsport are testimony to the fact that he knows his winning days in Grand Prix racing are over.

"He's doing those races because he has no hope in F1," Rosberg told Spanish newspaper AS.

"He has to look at other things to satisfy his desire to win, because winning the formula one title is not an option for him.

"So his next big challenge is to be the most versatile driver in the world," the German added.

While a podium could be in the cards for Alonso and McLaren this season, Rosberg just doesn't see a win on the horizon

"Will he win a grand prix in 2018? No. Will he get on the podium? A third place, why not?" he said.
