Nico Rosberg believes Daniel Ricciardo's destiny of choice for 2019 should be Ferrari, although the 2016 world champion isn't sure Sebastian Vettel would agree.
Red Bull's Ricciardo is in the process of weighing his options for the future, with speculation rife that the House of Maranello has opened its door to the Aussie.
Such a prospect would reunite Ricciardo with Vettel, his former Red Bull team mate, and although the German has gone on record as supporting the Red Bull driver's candidacy, he also favours the Scuderia keeping 38-year-old Kimi Raikkonen for another year.
Queried on Ricciardo's future, Rosberg says Ferrari is the Honey Badger's best choice for 2019.
"Ask me [about] individual drivers, where they should go: Ricciardo, I would say Ferrari," said Rosberg.
"I think he should go to Ferrari. It [Vettel and Ricciardo together] worked at Red Bull, didn't it, for one year.
"I'm not sure if Vettel is going to be too happy about him joining, because Ricciardo was faster than him in Red Bull.
"So, I don't know. But apart from that I think that would be a good choice for him, a good move."
Rosberg admits he's been impressed by the Scuderia's performance this season, because he knows just how challenging it is to beat Mercedes.
"I'm very surprised because I know how incredible Mercedes is," said the retired German.
"I thought last year Ferrari, new regulations, maybe they just got a few things right and then Mercedes with time, with the development, would just completely disappear again.
"I'm completely surprised that Ferrari generally has the better car at the moment. I didn't expect that. They have done fantastically."
