It'll almost be a home race for Max Verstappen in Germany

Max Verstappen returns to Hockenheim next week, the site of a double podium finish for Red Bull in 2016 and almost a home race for the Dutchman thanks to the venue's proximity with Holland.

The German race was absent from the calendar last year, and while Lewis Hamilton prevailed in 2016, he was flanked on the podium by Daniel Ricciardo and Verstappen.

"The German Grand Prix is back on the calendar and I’m looking forward to it," says Verstappen.

"I’m sure quite a few Dutch fans will also come over and visit the track to support me.

"At the last German Grand Prix we had a double podium, so that is of course a good memory."

Verstappen still sees Renault engine as Red Bull's big problem

Since that race however, Formula 1's cars have adopted new specifications, so laps times around Hockenheim are likely to tumble.

"Hockenheim is a historic track with some interesting corners, especially in the last sector where you can try different lines, so that’s enjoyable.

"I’m looking forward to the whole weekend and to experience it again.

"Also, I think for Germany to have a Grand Prix is very important as there are so many motorsport fans living there. So, I’m happy to go back."
