The F1 community's reaction to Alonso's retirement

Fernando Alonso's decision to call it a day on his career in Formula 1 at the end of the year is hardly surprising given the dim prospects that would have awaited the Spaniard had he chosen to remain on the grid.

The two-time world champion's outstanding talent perhaps didn't yield the results it deserved, but judging by the reactions on social media, Alonso will be missed.

The still-McLaren even driver kicked off the tributes with a post dedicated to... Formula 1!

From former teams to former team mates, from a few of his colleagues to various F1 personalities, a string of homages poured in.

And a rather mischievous Lando Norris also added his two cents..
