Returnee Daniil Kvyat in the running for Toro Rosso seat!

Red Bull is considering bringing back its former driver Daniil Kvyat to Toro Rosso as the Faenza-based outfit struggles to put together a driver line-up for 2019.

Kvyat's path to Formula 1 was laid out by the energy drink company who placed the Russian at Toro Rosso in 2014 before promoting him to Red Bull Racing the following year.

The driver's disappointing results justified his demotion back to the junior outfit in the early part of the 2016 season in a swap at the time with the up-and-coming Max Verstappen.

Stagnation thereafter ultimately led to Kvyat's ousting before the end of last year, the 24-year-old ultimately finding refuge at Ferrari as a development driver for the Scuderia this year.

According to Motorsport.com, discussions were held last weekend at Spa between Scuderia boss Maurizio Arrivabene and Red Bull's Christian Horner and Helmut Marko about the possibility of calling Kvyat back into action.

A void currenty subsists in Red Bull's junior programme, challenging Toro Rosso to choose a driver from within and forcing the team to look outside of its stable to compose its 2019 line-up.

Current junior bulls Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley are facing very different prospects for next season, with the Frenchman ensured to move to the Red Bull Racing while the Kiwi may not be retained.

McLaren junior Lando Norris has also been linked to a move to Toro Rosso, possibly as part of a compensation package involving the hiring by the Woking squad of the Italian team's technical director, James Key.

Other possible solutions along the lines of Toro Rosso recruiting outside of the Red Bull family could include Ferrari junior Antonio Giovinazzi and possibly even Stoffel Vandoorne should the Belgian depart McLaren, which many believe he will.
