Lewis Hamilton took to Instagram to confirm his utmost admiration for friend and fellow athlete Serena Williams following the American tennis player's dramatic loss in the US open women's final.
Williams was outplayed all evening by amazing underdog Naomi Osaka, but it all came to a head when the chair umpire penalized Williams for receiving 'coaching', a decision that led to a meltdown on the court for the 36-year-old, and ultimately to her demise.
Hamilton's offered his unwavering support however.
"Forever a champion," he wrote on Instagram. "This day was sent for a reason, so that you could fulfil your purpose.
"What you stand for is far greater than any game won, you’re an inspiration for the world and I’m inspired by you.
"Congrats to Naomi Osaka, it’s so great to see the mix of cultures and to see people breaking down barriers."
