Haas won't appeal decision to dismiss Force India protest

Haas has decided not to appeal the decision by the FIA stewards to dismiss the US outfit's protest last week of Racing Point Force India.

Ahead of last weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Haas' brought a case against Force India, claiming the pink outfit should not be deemed a 'constructor' as defined by the Formula One's 2018 sporting rules.

The protest contended that RPFI had acquired listed parts (parts such as the monocoque, survival cell, bodywork, etc… which a team is required to produce in-house) from the entity that went into administration last summer, therefore outsourcing the construction of its cars to a competitor, which the sporting regulations forbid.

Haas' protest was also founded - perhaps more importantly - on its belief that the new RPFI company that acquired the assets of the original Force India team is a new entrant, and should therefore be restricted from receiving 'Column 1' prize money from F1.

However, in Abu Dhabi last Saturday, the stewards dismissed the protest after concluding that Haas' action was baseless because the original Force India team was no longer a competitor in F1 when the newly established RPFI entity acquired the parts.

Haas initially considered appealing the decision, but the team's management has now decided to refrain from lodging an appeal.

"Haas has elected not to appeal the decision of the FIA Stewards (UAE Document 20 - Haas Protest Decision) following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Nov. 22-25 2018," the team wrote on Twitter.
