Sky F1 adds Karun Chandhok to 2019 pundit line-up

Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok will join Sky Sports F1's expert commentary team for the 2019 Grand Prix season.

Sky Sports F1's exclusive broadcasting deal for next year has led to some inevitable downsizing over at free-to-air Channel 4 which will only offer one live race in 2019 - the British Grand Prix - and highlights of the remaining races of the F1 world championship.

Chandhok, who ran in 10 races with the minnow HRT outfit in 2010, is happy to return to Sky Sports F1 where he was a consultant in the past, from 2012 to 2014.

"I'm very excited to be rejoining the Sky Sports F1 team from the 2019 season," said the Indian driver.

"With their long-term commitment to Formula 1 and the team of people that's in place, it's a great time to return.

"I believe that I've been able to develop and offer viewers a unique perspective of someone with a technical, strategic and historical knowledge of the sport combined with the experience of 18 years of driving racing cars."

In 2019, Sky Sports F1 team will also see 2009 F1 world champion Jenson Button join a line-up that will once again include Martin Brundle, Damon Hill, Paul di Resta, Anthony Davidson, Johnny Herbert and occasionally Nico Rosberg.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
