It was an interesting first week of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Catalunya, where the fastest weren't necessarily those who went the farthest over the course of the four days of running.
Contrary to last year, the weather that surrounded the Catalonia region was everyone's ally this week, with teams running unhindered through their respective programmes, helped also by solid reliability from all manufacturers, and specifically Honda.
In terms of mileage, Mercedes went the farthest with a cumulated 610 laps on the counter, but Ferrari was right behind with 598 laps.
That was over twice the distance achieved by Racing Point, the team with accomplished the least number of laps during the week, excluding of course Williams and the belated debut of its FW42.
A glance at the aggregated list of lap times shows us that Toro Rosso put both its drivers in the top six, although the standard disclaimers apply with regard to fuel loads.
The top six also achieved their best performance on Pirelli's softest available compound, the C5.
Interestingly, looking at team mate battles - also a rather futile exercise during pre-season testing, with the exception of Alfa Romeo's pair, rookies and new recruits had the upper hand over their more experienced or established team mates.
For instance, Alexander Albon was faster than Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso, Lando Norris edged Carlos Sainz at McLaren, and Pierre Gasly put in faster time than Max Verstappen at Red Bull.
On the whole, it all provides a great set-up for Week 2!
